People are often confused that whether vitamins are helpful in treating vitiligo or not. Some researchers found that a large number of vitiligo patients have low levels of Vitamin B12, Folic Acid and Vitamin C. These nutritional deficiencies often alter the production of melanin and can initiate vitiligo. So keeping in mind the facts of this research people can realize the significance of vitamins for the treatment of vitiligo.

A deficiency of different micronutrients weakens the immunity and the risk of different autoimmune diseases increase. Different scientists have found different types of deficiencies in vitiligo patients. It may be due to the deficiency of copper, pantothenic acid, PABA, folic acid, vitamin B12, or vitamin C.

Folic acid when used with vitamin B12 and sun exposure helps in re-pigmentation. These two nutrients are treated together because if both are deficient and only one nutrient is taken it can mask changes. This masking can be dangerous as it may trigger the further progression of vitiligo. A number of different supplements especially for vitiligo are available but before taking any combination of supplements one should consult a doctor as different combinations of supplements can be hazardous.

It does not mean that people with vitiligo should start taking excessive multivitamins tabs. They can use multivitamins tabs but should not neglect the importance of nutritious and well-balanced diet that offers many long-term benefits.
