1. Latest news about melanocytes

Though melanocytes and melanin are the prominent factor in vitiligo But vitiligo is not only a melanocyte disorder, but keratinocytes and Langerhans cells also involve in it. These are found in the epidermis and follicular epithelium.

Here under some factors that are responsible for destruction of melanocytes.

A new study clue towards the some melanocytic abnormalities, which may be
(a) An internal anomaly in the function and composition of the rough endoplasmic reticulum in melanocytes.

 (b) An abnormal growth factor of melanocyte.

 (c) Defects in Putative melatonin receptors on melanocytes and free radical defense in body.

Vitiligo is not single factor etiology. Multiple factors are involve in pathogenesis of this skin auto-immune disorder.

There is an increase in the internal and external Catechol/Phenol concentration which serves as alternative of tyrosinase and compete with tyrosine.

Increasing hydrogen peroxide (redox balance) tend to convert these substrates into reactive quinines can bound to form covalent bound to catalytic centre of tyrosinase.

This could be a factor in the production of an antigen which stimulate the production of cytotoxic T cells abundantly in body.

However, the activation of such cytotoxic cells is only a first step in skin melanocyte killing.
