Rigoberto Tovar García, who was best known, by his nickname, Rigo Tovar; was a great Mexican singer.He is considered a musical pioneer who started fusing electric guitars, synthesizers and rock melody with traditional Mexican music. He was also famous for his cumbia songs.

Rigo Tovar’s Early Life:

Rigo was born in March 29, 1946 in Matamoros at Tamaulip. He belongs to a very poor family, and grew up in extreme poverty. Whole of his life was full of tragedy and controversy in spite of his success and fortune. His relationship with his father was very tense and difficult. He had spent most of his time in family feuds. He has several brothers but they left him, in the beginning of his career. He has also lost his mother, with whom he had a very close relationship.

Rigo Tovar’s Personal Life:

Rigo also had many women in his life like many popular musicians. He was a father of 12 children.

Rigo Tovar’s Career:

Although he was raised in his native Matamoros, border town to Brownsville, Texas, United States, yet he got start of his career from Houston, Texas, in the early 1970s.His first great hit album “Matamoros Querido” was released in 1971.He started losing his sight in his mid 20’s,but many people did not consider it true, they thought that, he has done this to gain some kind of publicity stunt.

Rigo Tovar & Vitiligo:

He was diagnosed with vitiligo in late his life. In addition to vitiligo he was also suffered with retinitis pigmentosa and diabetes. His last years of life, were very difficult because he became blind and sick at that time. He was died in March 27, 2005, a few days before his 59th birthday. His funeral was held behind closed doors in a notable funeral agency in Mexico City. He was cremated there and his ashes were thrown onto Matamoros beaches, according to his wishes.
