Vitiligo is a skin disease that is characterized by irregular white patches or blotches on skin which can appear on any part of the body. These white patches are result of destruction of pigment producing cells called melanocytes. This disease usually starts with a small white spot and spread to different parts of the body. In some cases size of those white patches may also increase. Vitiligo is not dangerous and it causes no harm but is unacceptable because of cosmetic factors.

Many people with vitiligo can feel depressed and start lacking confidence because of their white spots. These people are tensed and want to get back their lost skin pigmentation. For such people a number of therapies are available. The most proven techniques out of these are UV therapy and herbal treatments.

People who have used UVB lamp have claimed re-pigmentation. These lamps are also available on small scale and can be used by patients at home without the hassle of going to hospitals for UV light therapy sessions.

Herbal treatments are a proven way of vitiligo. These treatments are based on Psoralens. Psoralen occurs naturally and sensitizes human skin to the tanning effect of sun light by enhancing pigmentation. Vitiligo patients should not get disheartened coz by using the above treatments they can re-pigment their skin and can regain their self confidence.
